Learn How to Protect Yourself

Step 1: Sleep Safe

Sleep under an insecticide-treated mosquito net every night. Make sure the net is properly hung, tucked in and does not have holes.

Step 2: Speak Up

If you have a fever, headache, chills, vomiting or feel very unwell, tell a parent, teacher or another trusted adult immediately.

Step 3: Get Tested

Fever can have different causes. Visit a qualified health worker for a malaria test before taking malaria medicine.

Step 4: Take Medicine Correctly

Take malaria medicine only when it is prescribed or provided by a qualified health worker. Complete the full course as directed, even when you start feeling better.

Step 5: Never Share Medicine

Never share medicine, take another person’s medicine or use leftover medicine. Always ask a trusted adult and follow guidance from a qualified health worker.

Step 6: Keep Your Surroundings Clean

Work with adults to keep your home and school clean, cover water containers and safely remove unnecessary stagnant water.

Step 7: Know the Danger Signs

Seek urgent medical help if a child becomes very weak, confused or difficult to wake, has fits, vomits repeatedly, struggles to breathe or cannot drink.
